Employer Extraordinaire

Copeland Furniture, based in Bradford, Vermont, has been in business since 1976. Through the years, they’ve kept with the New England tradition of fine furniture manufacturing while incorporating modern technologies and design. The result: An eco-friendly, efficient factory filled with happy employees. They currently employ over 100 people—many who have been with the company for decades.

Quality Before Everything Else

Each Copeland piece is made to the highest quality standards, ensuring it will last for generations. Copeland does not cut corners in any part of their construction (they follow all of the best practices for wood furniture, which you can read about here). Features of their pieces include:

  • Solid wood from American-grown trees
  • Mitre or panel box construction
  • Solid wood drawer boxes with dovetail construction
  • Integrated drawer face (as opposed to a separate piece attached to a drawer box)
  • Undermount soft-close drawer glides and soft-close hinges
  • Integrated back panel goes into grooves along the top, bottom, and sides
  • Low VOC, Greenguard-certified finishes

Taking Care of the Environment

Copeland’s dedication to environmental responsibility is evident in every aspect of their business. Here’s some of what they’ve done:

  • Installed a solar field next to their factory that produces over half of its electricity
  • Source the majority of their wood from within 500 miles of their factory
  • Take smaller scrap wood pieces and join them together to be used in a lower cost line of furniture
  • Donate all other scrap wood to the community to use for firewood
  • Use wood waste to heat the factory in the winter

Purchasing a piece of high-quality furniture made by Copeland supports a company that treats their employees and the environment right. Read more about our visit to their factory on our blog here.
